Brilliant Idea
In one of those eureka moments I had the “brilliant” idea to add 3D butterflies to Out of the Ashes. Brilliant ideas have a way of becoming less brilliant once one starts executing them. The trick, I find, is to push through the doubt and keep going through the negativity, mostly in my head and occasionally from others.

I Could Have Stopped There
So, it has been with Out of the Ashes. I was happy with the shifting values design, enhanced with rainbow ribbons. I could have stopped there. But, no, wait imagine if I added thread painted butterflies. I did. All I had left to do was the free motion quilting and finish work. I could have stopped there. I didn’t. Just one more tweak, the addition of 3D butterflies. Success!

Success
There can be a glaring gap between vision and execution. Not this time. I wish I could share the final piece with you in person. The pictures, despite the talents of my photographer, aka my husband, just don’t do it justice. You will have to imagine the wings lifted a full 2″ (5 cm) off the quilt. Concept achieved. Hurrah!
I am linking up with Nina Marie’s Off the Wall Fridays.
Your husband is humbled
What can I say? Without you my posts would be just prose.
Out of the Ashes came out great, Gwyned! I do wish I could see it in person. I love the idea of the three-dimensional butterflies and I’m so glad you were able to work through the technical challenges to bring this idea to fruition. You should link up this finish with TGIFF Thank Goodness It’s Finished Friday today, too. I’m hosting this week, and you are PERSONALLY invited: https://www.rebeccagracequilting.com/2021/03/party-at-my-house-yall-cmon-and-link-up.html. 🙂
Thank you kindly. It’s been quite the projects, as you know. Now off to link up with TGIFF.
