Fast Forward
We are in fast forward mode here in our seaside town. That isn’t the royal we, but both me and the SEDOSO (the Senior Executive Director of Studio Operations). I have taken advantage of his becoming more independent to review my inventory of all those pesky, nearly done, WIPs (Works in Progress). I don’t consider any of my artworks completely done until their hanging sleeve is on, a label affixed and when appropriate, added to my website. Thanks to Project Quilting 2026 and several older artworks, there were approximately half a dozen of those pesky WIPs. Yes, I quickly created labels, sleeves and more. Are they officially finished? Of course not. However, I made solid progress and have a much better idea of what is needed.
Secret Mission
I didn’t work exclusively on my WIPs. The deadline for the Secret Mission gifting is getting closer and closer. The next step is quilting. So, I headed down the Pinterest rabbit hole to check out potential FMQ designs for inspiration.

I prefer designs that are continuous line, versus requiring numerous stops and starts. The floral motif in the center of the ring functions like a spiral. It also reflects the floral embroidery scattered throughout the quilt.
Rainbow Scrap Challenge

Every month a different color is announced on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge site. April is pink. I opted to move a little faster this RSC season. So, rather than making only the pink block, I also made the orange block that uses the same pattern. I am more than half through the 12 blocks! How’s that for working fast.

Sometimes I think half the fun of the RSC is reminiscing about the various fabrics I have purchased or created over the years. The pink floral fabric, the cat is reclining on, is something I over dyed approximately 25 years ago. It started as a white on white fabric.
Keeping It Reel
For the first time since the SEDOSO broke his hip he was able to do some photography for me. We have a designated area for that in the unfinished basement. You can view our set up in this reel on both Instagram and Facebook.
SEDOSO
Tomorrow, the SEDOSO and I will go on our first non-medical adventure. We are headed into a Boston, approximately an hour away by commuter train, to have brunch with family. He still requires a crutch, elevators and extra time, but all of this is doable. Pretty impressive 6 weeks post fracturing his hip.
Question of the Week
How do you make design choices, whether it is in your artwork and decorating your home?
I’m linking up to the following posts:

Hooray for SEDOSOS’ recovery! It was great to see him on Instagram behind the camera!! I like your pink cat. As for your question, I ask a lot of what if questions and go with the answer Gertie likes best. . .that is if my inner squirrel is communicating with me! LOL
Thank you, Terry. SEDOSO still has quite a ways to go, but he has also come quite far. Glad you were able to catch the reel.
So impressed with SEDOSO’s progress! Hope your outing goes smoothly and you enjoy time with family.
Not bad for six weeks post surgery. Thank you for your encouragement.
I love your pink cat block, Gwyned! It is always fun to see what scraps we can throw in to our RSC blocks. Your non-medical adventure sounds exciting, plus I bet it will feel so good to do something that feels normal! I’m glad the SEDOSO is making such good progress. My design decisions often tend to go along the lines of thinking “simpler is better.” But then once in awhile I go out on a limb and it doesn’t always work. That happened to me in the RSC blocks for this week, which I’ll share in tomorrow’s blog post. Have a wonderful time with your family!
On Friday, we ran some errands together, including going grocery shopping. It was a test run for day. Can’t say it feels quite normal yet, since SEDOSO’s gait is awkward and uses a crutch for balance. It is good progress and better than many who have suffered hip/femur fractures. So we are grateful for all his improvement. He is about halfway through the healing process.
I’m with you when it comes to liking simpler. So an excellent question/design decision is “How can I keep this simple?” Thanks for the reminder, since I can never resist adding just a bit more.
Cats in the Attic is really taking shape. Each new kitty block is so cute!!
Thank you, Sara. Yes, it is fun to see how many different backgrounds and cat fur I can come up with from my scraps. Hopefully, adding black settings and corner stones will help make the piece feel more cohesive.
Your kitty blocks are so cute. Glad SEDOSO is on the mend. Have a good adventure into Boston. As to your question, those decisions are the hardest for me. I’m not confident either in our home or in my art/crafting. Win some, lose some!
We both survived and enjoyed our Boston adventure. The SEDOSO did amazingly well navigating the underground on his crutch. It was good to get together for a family brunch. Yes, decisions can feel paralyzing and then we second guess them after the fact.
So glad to hear your Sr. Exec is back and going places with you, Gwyned. Now, is there is a reason you chose a cat block this year? I missed that point. Best wishes for your family time and traveling.
I can’t say I chose the cat block for a particular reason. Of course, I am cat person. Have nearly always had one, two and at one time three cats sharing my home. Mostly, I wanted to minimize my time creating for the RSC so I could focus on other things. Ironically, health issues have “stolen” that bonus time I had hoped for. Even that isn’t quite true. I got to do 100% of the Project Quilting prompts and I am working on the Secret Mission.
Thank you for the best wishes. We survived and appreciated our trip downtown.
Those kitties are so pretty. I feel the same way about WIPs. They need the label and hanging sleeve (if necessary) to be finished. Enjoy your trip to Boston. We are heading there next week after stopping at the AQS quilt show in Hartford, CT.
Precisely, no point in having a quilt without a label or sleeve. However, it is easy to set those finishing tasks aside and move on to other things that need doing.
Happy to hear you are enjoying the kitties.
Great idea to make the same block in both colors. LOVE the color of the cat in the pink block. Purrfect! Happy quilting.
Yes, I thought it wise to tackle similar blocks simultaneously. Probably saved an hour or two. Not sure what possessed me to use the black and beige fabric I did for my “pink” cat. It did work out nicely. Happy to hear you like it.
This spiral rose quilting design looks very good, I also love the little leaves. Cute pink cat block, it’s fun to use your own fabric and remembering about its history. Enjoy your family gathering and congratulations to your husband for the quick recovery! It was great to see him on IG. Thank you for sharing and linking up.
Nice to know you agree with me about the spiral rose with tiny leaves. It does seem to pay homage to the embroidery. Thank you for checking out the IG post. I’m still waiting for the SEDOSO to reach the point where he can help film my reels. I would like to share reels of me sewing, but not confident enough to figure out how to do that on my own.
So glad your photog is back in action!! the cats are coming along so nicely! Followed you on Insta – what fun!
Alycia, thanks for checking out my Insta. Nice to hear you are enjoying it, just as I enjoy the variety of work you create for QOV.
