All is Well
All is well. Thank you to everyone who offered their support. I had surgery on Tuesday. According to my surgeon nothing unexpected was found and the procedure went well. Easy for her to say. Just kidding. However, I’m back home and even managed a single studio day this week.
Butterfly Sanctuary
October 1st, the 9th of 12 butterfly blocks was released by WonderFil. This one is called Wander. Someone must have had pity for me, because I think this block has the fewest pieces yet. I finished it this morning, just before writing this post.

I can hardly believe it is October 2nd and I am completely caught up with my Butterfly Sanctuary QAL blocks. Of course this was my plan. November is busy. Anything that can be done early is always welcome.
Cohasset Open Studios
Cohasset Open Studios will be the first weekend in November. Knowing that October will present health challenges for me, mostly in terms of additional medical appointments, we set up our home and studio early. The next photo is at the landing where the stairs to my studio take a turn.

Normally, I get the theme for my open studio by what I finished during the year. It’s been a tough year. I managed to complete a half a dozen or so small pieces. So, with no obvious theme, I decided to rehang some of my older work. Botswana Bounty and Little Lake Butte de Morts in Summer are just two of the more than 20 pieces we currently have hanging on our walls.
Rainbow Scrap Challenge
The Rainbow Scrap Challenge had to be placed on the back burner this week. I’ll pick it up again next week. Right now Cats in the Attic, my 2026 challenge, looks great on the design wall.

I try to set up the design wall to fit the open studio. Can you spot Wander, the newest butterfly, on the wall with its playmates?
Question of the Week
Do you celebrate making it over a monumental hurdle? If so, what is your favorite way to mark the occasion?
I’m linking up to the following posts:

Best wishes to you for an uneventful recovery. Lovely to see Lake Buttes des Morts in a prominent spot!
Thank you, Cheryl. No doubt you recognize the view from our” condo.
Glad all is as it should be. . recovering from surgery takes time. Take your time and let your body rest when it needs! I have two celebrations/goals in mind when I’ve “recovered” from my knee revision surgery. Swimming laps and walking the neighborhood will be how I celebrate getting over this monumental hurdle.
Swimming sounds luxurious. I’d settle for a shower at this point. That will be on Saturday. Hope you are able to get in the pool soon.
Good news, Gwyned! Keeping you in my prayers for a speedy recovery without complications.
Yes, it was good news, even if that was the news I expected. Thank you for your continued support.
Little Lake quilt is very pretty on the wall and I like the next to it too
Thank you, Karen. Little Lake Butte de Morts is an abstracted version of the view from our condo when we lived in Appleton. It required me to learn a variety of new to me techniques.
I wish you a quick and smooth recovery, sorry I missed several of your posts. Your new butterfly is beautiful, love the colors and prints. Your studio looks ready for a great exhibition. Thank you for sharing and linking up, take care of yourself.
Thank you, Frédérique. All is well. Actually managed my 4 mile walk this morning. I’m not quite ready for my open studio. However, I am confident I will be when the time comes.
Your post title was good news for your readers, Gwyned! Glad all went well with the surgery and you are already back to sewing butterflies and walking! Those are two things I would be craving after a life interruption like surgery! I think my favorite celebration is just that feeling of getting back to “normal” life activities after being unable to do them.
Yes, it feels good to be out walking again. My orders were not to shower until today. You bet I luxuriated under the spray. So nice to be able to wash my hair again, too.
Excellent point, Diann. I am enjoying returning to my routine. Several more weeks before I can do lift anything over five pounds, which also means no yoga. So, it will be good to get back to that, too. I will be able to be active in the studio next week. That will be fun.
Glad the surgery went well, Gwyned, and that you are back to your sewing table. Your cat quilt is really cute, and amazing butterflies. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thank you, Astrid. I’m really looking forward to getting back to quilting Cats in the Attic on Monday.
Oh my, not being able to lift stuff would be the worst part for me. I’m always carrying stuff up and down the stairs, never mind the cooking pots as well. Sounds like you have everything under control and healing on schedule.
Let’s just say, when I accidentally forget and try to lift something I shouldn’t, I realize quickly. However, just five days post surgery and I basically have full, natural mobility – just not with weight added. So, everything is under control, as you said.
I am so glad your surgery went well, Gwyned and I wish you a very speedy recovery. Your butterfly block is amazing and I love seeing what is on your design wall. The quilts along the stairway are spectacular. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers . Warm hugs
It’s fun to peek into each other’s homes, isn’t it. We are polar opposites in styles. Precisely why I so enjoy how you pull together your seasonal displays. I tend towards minimalistic and open, rarely taking seasons and holidays into account.
Thank you for your support and kind words.
