Week in Review 2022 – 06/03

Need a Boost?

Who doesn’t need a boost from time to time? My mood is impacted by the weather, the news, creating art and interacting with others. It’s been a tough week. I often don’t realize I’m feeling down until something comes along to elevate my mood.

The sky, river, and marshy grasslands are created from over 2,500 individual squares and triangles.
Sunrise Over the Gulf River

This is the best time of year to walk in our neighborhood and catch the sunrise. No surprise I have built a collection of sunrise quilts. They always give me a boost. Apparently, others feel similarly, since Sunrise Over the Gulf River has been selected by U. S. Ambassador Eugene Young and his wife to be included in an exhibition at the embassy in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. This is my second quilt to be selected by the Art in Embassies program. The last one went to Belgrade.

Townhouses in shades of cream yellow at the top to a rich golden yellow at the bottom, lined up one next to the other and in three rows. The columns are staggered.

Progress Boost

I can’t control whether my work is selected by an ambassador, but I can control whether I make progress each week. There is something about completing a large section of of a piece, like Bat Sh*t Crazy that is a real mood elevator. This week I completed a 36″ H x 18″ W section. I’m pleased with how my intent to create atmospheric perspective is working.

  1. What could be a greater boost than having your work hang in the US embassy? Congratulations! I did not know about this program. Do you have any info you can share?

    1. Norma, here is the link ( https://www.art.state.gov ) to the Art in Embassies program. Click on the Artist’s tab.It is a very simple registration process for anyone who habitually submits work to calls for entry. No cost to join. No cost to be participate in an exhibition. There is even a lovely catalog to accompany the exhibition in English and the native tongue of the country where the embassy is located.

  2. Congrats on your Sunrise being selected for the exhibition. BSC is coming along nicely, if slowly with precision.

    1. Thank you, Nancy. Another glorious sunrise this morning. Got to enjoy it while eating breakfast before heading out for our walk. Love this time of year.
