Distractions

It may surprise you to learn distractions plague me. I expect most people share this trait. There are so many things I need to do, feel I should do or simply want to do. Many of those things qualify as distractions in my book, since they can take me away from what I plan on focusing on. Distractions do have their advantages, too. They may introduce you to something you never would have attempted or investigated otherwise.

Ciel de Noyer

A few stitches and the basket and hot air balloon are joined.

I usually spend my weekends taking a couple of long walks, visiting with friends and catching up with this or that. Not so this weekend. We are shepherding one of our grandsons to 4, yes 4 hockey games at 4 different rinks all of them an hour or more from our home. He lives about 3 hours away, so he will be overnighting with us as well. Quite a distraction from our usual empty nest home.

How is this a positive beyond getting to see him play and visit with him? It was the incentive I needed to put the pedal to floor and finish quilting Ciel de Noyer. Don’t see the connection? I wanted hand work to do at the rink as we waited for the games to start. I will be blind stitching the facing to the back of the quilt.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge

Two columns are sewn together.

Then there is my 2024 Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I started to sew the blocks together, but set them aside in my zeal to finish quilting Ciel de Noyer. I did manage to sew two of the 17 block long columns together. While I stitch I am distracted by my thoughts on how to quilt this monstrosity. Tempting as it is to simplify the quilting by stitching in the ditch or doing an all over stipple pattern, I just can’t resist the challenge of some custom quilting. Therefore, I am currently researching patterns to quilt within each colored diamond. What can I say? I am my on worst distraction. 🙂
